A high level of quality and efficiency in an economic system is extremely relevant for the growth of a country. Among the institutions that have the greatest impact on economic performance, the legal and judicial system plays a prominent role. Italian economic growth has been and is definitely hampered by the length as well as by the justice processes, which reduce legal certainty and confidence, increases the risk of economic activities and therefore reduces the propensity to invest. The aim of this book is to highlight the elements which affect the length of civil proceedings. In this perspective, the contributions focus a permanent situation of mismatch between demand and supply of justice. The book tries to put attention on the main "players" involved in the administration/organization of justice and on the respective roles: on the one hand, lawyers who contribute to determining the level of the demand for justice, and on the other, judges who express the offer of justice. Among all institutions, as the book tries to demonstrate, justice has a relevant function both from an ethical, social and economic point of view. It is therefore imperative to ensure a well-functioning judicial system and measures should be taken in order to boost a global recovery not only in economic but also in social and, above all, ethical terms.
